Abstract
1459883 Mechanical switches JAEGER 27 Sept 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 42087/74 Heading H1N [Also in Division G4] In an automatically cancellable directionindicator vehicle switch a trigger 26 has a rigid actuator portion 32 for engagement with a lug 33 (Fig. 7) on the steering shaft and a resiliently deformable portion 35 arranged when portion 32 is actuated by the lug 33 to engage a respective one of two stops 36, 37. In the embodiment the end of a control lever 1 is introduced into a contact carrier 2 within a casing 4 closed by a cover 5. A conductive strip 7, Fig. 3, is mounted beneath assembly 2, is resiliently urged downwards by springs and co-operates with studs 9 and 8 or 10 (as appropriate) fixed on the base of casing 4 by a rocking action; stud 9 is connected to positive supply and studs 8, 10 to the means indicating change of direction. One end of the contact carrier is cut as a cam face with five notches Fig. 8 (not shown) on which a pin 17 moves and is biased by leaf springs 22. Trigger 26 is held in its neutral position by springs 30. If a small circular movement is given to lever 1 the contact carrier is carried in the same direction, the cam (11, Fig. 8, not shown) is displaced relative to pin 17 to cause the latter to occupy on intermediate, unstable, notch and the circuit to energize the appropriate direction-indicator is made. On further lever movement pin 17 reaches a far, stable, notch; Fig. 4 corresponds to this position: on return of the steering shaft lug 33 causes part 35 of the trigger to exert force on stop 37 and thereby carry the contact carrier with it, pin 17 moving into its neutral position on the cam face. If lever 1 is held in a stable position against the automatic return action the danger of breakage of the stops fixed to the contact carrier is avoided by the resilient deformability of portion 35. A warning device is actuatable by way of ball 38, Fig. 1 and a contact stud Fig. 5 (not shown).
