Abstract
973,975. Mechanical switches, without quick action. PAINTON & CO. Ltd. May 21, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 19883/62. Heading H2B. A thumb-wheel switch comprises a plate 1 carried by a strip 4 by means of tongues 3 entering slots 5 and screws 6 engaging tapped lugs 2. The switch-operating member comprises a wheel 8 on a pivot 9 riveted to plate 1, and having its periphery protruding from a window slot 7 in strip 4. The wheel 8 is moulded with an annular recess 20 and a toothed central boss for co-operation with a ball detent 25. The rim of the wheel carries coloured translucent indicia which are illuminated by a lamp 23, the lamp and detent being mounted on the plate 1 and accommodated within the recess 20. On the side opposite the annular recess 20 the wheel has a boss 21 which extends through a circular aperture in a printed circuit board (not shown) and carries a bridging contact for wiping over printed fixed contacts (Fig. 4, not shown). The board is mounted parallel to the plate 1 by screws passing through spacer sleeves into tapped holes 26 in the plate 1. A stop 24 on plate 1 co-operates with a stop 18 projecting into the recess from the rim of wheel 8 to limit rotation in each direction.
