Abstract

1327878 Direction indicator switches for roadvehicles FRANZ KIRSTEN ELEKTROTECHNISCHE SPEZIALFABRIK 13 Dec 1971 [19 July 1971] 57830/71 Heading G4Q A vehicle direction-indicator switch comprises a manually-operable lever 6 with an automatic return actuated during return rotation of the vehicle steering wheel, the return mechanism comprising a release element 5 displaceable by a cam 20 of the steering wheel, the element 5 being guided by means of a stud 8 thereon riding in a slot 9 in a guide fork member 12 which is loaded to a normal position by a spring 10 so that the member 12 is capable of displacement when the release element is cammed but the lever 6 is held in. one of its non-neutral positions by an external influence. The lever 6, which has to be moved to a switching position 6<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 4) prior to indication movement, comprises a central portion 16 to which the lever arm is pivoted. The central portion 16 is enclosed, on one side by a contact carrier 3, and on the other side by a casing 4 from which the release element projects. The portion 16 has at its upper end an aperture providing a profiled edge 17 against which the stud 18 of the release element 5 is urged by tension springs 19. The edge 17 has a central region which, in the neutral position of lever 6, maintains the stud 18 and hence element 5 in a retracted position so as not to project for interference by cam 20. In either indication position of lever 6, the cam 20 can displace the element 5 which is extended by the springs 19 due to the cut-away form of edge 17. When displaced by the cam, the lower lever arm part of element 5 swings against a die edge formation on central portion 16 to return the latter and lever 6 to the neutral position. In the event, however, that external influence is being exerted on lever 6 to maintain it in the selected indication position, the cam force on element 5 exerts lateral loading on the guide fork member 12 whose extension 14 permits displacement of the member 12 to allow the cam 20 to pass over element 5 (Fig. 3).
