Abstract
1,222,603. Direction indicator switches. WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE K.G. HUECK & CO. 28 May, 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 25557/68. Heading G4Q. A direction indicator switch comprises an operating lever 8 with a spring-loaded plunger 10 engaging detents 12 in the operating and off positions. The lever rotates a switching member 1 having a contact plate 5 below and above a pair of resilient arms 23, 27 reinforced by a spring 31. The release member 17 is pivoted on a pin 21 slidable in a slot 26 by a tension spring 25. When the switch is operated, Fig. 3, the release member slides forward along a cam face 20 on the switching member, so that the front 29 of the release member lies in the path of a dog 30 on the steering column. When the steering wheel is turned back the dog 30 engages part 29 to pivot the release member so that the rear end bearing on arm 23 returns the switching member to the off position, and the release member slides back up the cam surface. Over-ride of the cancelling action is possible by holding the operating lever, when one of the resilient arms 23, 27 yields. The lever 8 may be moved in a vertical direction so that the plunger 10 engages a lower detent 14 for a further switching function, e.g. dimming headlights.
