Abstract

1392715 Corection indicator switches for road vehicles JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 12 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 9627/71 Heading G4Q A road vehicle self-cancelling direction indicator switch comprises an indicator lamp operating member 11 and a rotatable and displaceable pawl 19 having projecting fingers 29. As shown in Fig. 5, the member 11 is in an operative position and the pawl has been forced downwards and held in position by detents 25, 26 on the member 11, so that a finger 29 is in the path 31a of a striker (30) carried by the steering shaft (9). When the steering shaft is moved in a clockwise direction, the striker causes the pawl to rotate without releasing member 11, whereas when the steering shaft is moved in an anticlockwise direction, a hexagonal portion 22 of the pawl rolls over rib 25 allowing the pawl to be retracted by means of a spring and moving the member 11 to the inoperative position. To indicate change of lane, the member 11 is turned through only a small angle to a position where it it not latched and returns to inoperative position on release.
