887,146. Nuclear reactors. A.E.I.-J. THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd. May 7, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 16687/58. Class 39(4) The moderator of a nuclear reactor is formed of graphite blocks having vertical channels 7, 8 in opposite faces. Two blocks placed together at the recess 10 form a fuel element channel which is inclined to the vertical as shown in Fig. 3 to produce a zig-zag coolant path. The ridge 11 and groove 12 key the blocks to prevent lateral movement. Spacing between blocks is effected by the raised band round the middle of each block. Specification 887,145 is referred to.
