Abstract
859,930. Nuclear reactors. A.E.I.-J. THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd. March 25, 1959 [April 2, 1958], No. 10646/58. Class 39(4). A moderator structure for a gas-cooled reactor comprises vertical stacks of graphite blocks 1 with coolant channels 2. The stacks are spaced, to allow Wigner growth, by locating slabs 4 and 5 ; the slabs and blocks have minimum Wigner growth in the directions of the arrows x, y, z. To prevent leakage of gas along the keyways 7 which locate the slabs and blocks, the channels have lining rings which may be flush with the abutting surfaces, reference 12, Fig. 1; or which may extend right through the slabs into sockets 14, Fig. 2, in the blocks.
