Abstract
887,105. Ship construction. EXPANDED METAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 7, 1959 [July 31, 1958], No. 24775/58. Class 113. In the hold of a ship the perforate deck 7 is of sufficient strength to enable storage of heavy cargo, while alternatively allowing the hold to be filled with grain or other material in bulk, and is supported on transverse beams comprising the outer sections 4 and 5, hingedly secured to the hull 8, and a central section 6 detachably or hingedly secured between. Adjustable tie rods 11 join the aligned free ends of the outer sections 4 and 5 and serve to strengthen the structure. The perforate deck 7 may be reinforced by further longitudinal and transverse members and sections of it may be removable or hinged to allow access to the various decks.
