1,027,531. Timber carrying vessels. MITSUBISHI SHIPBUILDING & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 20, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6794/63. Heading B7A. A cargo ship has a hull comprising a single hold 2 (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) extending the greater part of the length of the hull and a door or doors 8 at the bow and/or stern, the hold having a cross-section corresponding to an upwardly widening trapezium open at the upper side for loading rafts of timber (Fig. 4, not shown), a plurality of tanks 15 (Fig. 3, not shown) outboard of the hold being floodable to vary the draft of the ship to enable the rafts to be drawn through the opened door(s), and upper deck portions 4 being outboard of the hold. Collapsible struts 18 in the upper deck portions along each side of the hull form (together with sleepers 34) cargo loading space above the upper open end of the hold.
