Abstract

886,432. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 7, 1960 [March 10, 1959], No. 8222/59. Class 38 (2). A voltage regulating arrangementc omprises autotransformer A with tappings 2 to 12 and a pair of selector switches with bridging contacts F, G and fixed members D, E. Member E is connected to one end of the tapped secondary winding H of an auxiliary transformer. Alternate tappings on H are arranged on opposite sides of the winding for contact with bridging members K, M which connect a selected tapping to output terminal U through moving contact T. To change from tapping 12 to tapping 11 the procedure is as follows, the current path shown in heavy line: tappings on H are changed in sequence by moving the appropriate selector switch to the next tapping to be used, then moving contact T to connect the tapping to the load. When tapping 14 is reached (Fig. 3) M is moved to contact 25, T is moved to contact R, then G is moved to tapping 11 and K to tapping 24 (Fig. 5). When T is moved back to contact N, F is moved to tapping 11, and M to tapping 23. The sequence is repeated so that each subsidiary tapping is connected in turn to the output circuit at each main tapping position, the voltage from a subsidiary tapping always being added to that from a main tapping.
