1,017,208. Transformers. E. SCHEUBECK, [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK REINHAUSEN GEBRUDER SCHEUBECK KOMMGES]. May 27, 1963, No. 21069/63. HeadingH1T. In an on-load tap changing system the main load switch parts 1, 2 and 5, 6 each have a closed core choke coil La or Lb connected in series, a resistance R 1 or R 2 being connected as shown so that the chokes La, Lb are connected through them across the diverter resistances Ra 1 , Rb 1 . The chokes La, Lb saturate at very low current values and resistances of R 1 , R 2 are high while the diverter resistances Ra 1 , Rb 1 may be subdivided as shown. On changing from tap A to tap B (selector switches not shown) load switch 1 is opened followed by load switch 2 as diverter switch 3 closes. An arc burns at 2 until current zero is reached. As the current direction reverses La offers initially a high impedance, the arc is extinguished and the load current flows through Ra 1 , the voltage drop across La after it becomes saturated being limited by the drop across Ra 1 and R 1 so that if the choke is suitably chosen restriking of the arc at 2 is precluded. Diverter switch 4 is then closed followed by load switches 5 and 6.
