Abstract
607,347. Transformers. FOSTER TRANSFORMERS & SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., JENNINGS, R. E., and ELLIS, R. F. Jan. 31, 1946, No. 3097. [Class 38 (ii)] The circulating current between adjacent taps in a tap-changing transformer is limited by employing a contact brush of carbon or other high resistance material suitable to carry the load and wide enough to bridge the gap between adjacent contacts. As shown, tapped transformer winding section B is connected to switch S of the usual type having successively moving contacts W1 and W2, but not necessarily of the "on-load" type; section A is in two parts A1 and A2 connected to the "on-load " type tapping switch S2. The moving contact W3 of this switch is a carbon or like high resistance brush. The total voltage across winding section A is substantially equal to that between two adjacent tappings on section B. The switches are geared together so that one revolution of switch S2 causes switch S1 to move only through a single step.
