Abstract
400,962. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MAYO, C. G., 17, Alexandra Road, Rugby. May 3, 1932. No. 12750. [Class 38 (ii).] An arrangement for tap-changing under load comprises in addition to a tap-changing switch 4 a permanent connection between the load circuit and an intermediate tap the connection including a device 5 such as a gas discharge tube or a saturable reactor which permits only a small or neglible current to flow during normal operation when subjected only to a small voltage corresponding to the tapped portion of the winding, but is adapted to pass a large current when subjected to the full voltage of the winding during movement of the tapping switch. Fig. 1 shows the application to an arrangement in which the tappings are located near the middle of the winding, and Fig. 2 shows the application to an arrangement where the tappings are located at the end of a winding.
