Abstract
712,239. Protective cut-out arrangements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WILLIAMS, C. E. May 14, 1952 [April 10, 1951], No. 8319/51. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] Various forms of protective devices may be provided to earth the faulty point or to disconnect the supply in the event of a fault causing a voltage rise in the secondary circuit of a discharge lamp supply arrangement. As shown, a voltage rise caused, e.g., by a short-circuit across lamps 7-1, causes a glow discharge tube 10-2 to conduct, whereupon the current flowing to earth energizes the coil 11-2 of a relay 12-2, closure of whose contacts completes a D.C. circuit through the relay hold-in coil 13-2 and the coil 15 of normally-closed main contactor 14 whose contacts then open the supply circuit to the lamp supply transformers 1-4. One relay may replace the three or more shown. In other arrangements, the main contactor is dispensed with, and the glow discharge tube, alone, or with one or more relays, earths the highvoltage fault point in the circuit.
