Abstract

525,334. Protective cut-out arrangements. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (Sh-baura Engineering Works, Ltd.). Feb. 17, 1939, No. 5346. [Class 38 (v)] In a protective system employing an arc-suppressing reactor (Petersen coil) 4 with tappings 5 so that its reactance can be adapted to actual operating conditions of the line 1, and in which a resistance 8 is included when a permanent earth occurs, so as to increase the effective component of earthing current, the resistance is connected to a tapped secondary winding 6 of the reactor, and the taps 5, 7 are changed simultaneously by the means 10, so that the secondary volts applied to the. resistance, and hence the effective earthing-current component, remain constant irrespective of the condition of the primary side. The resistance is inserted by a switch 9 energized by a time-limit relay (not shown).
