Abstract

886,235. Baling presses. NEWHILL & EARNSHAW Ltd. April 16, 1958 [Nov. 27, 1957], No. 36937/57. Class 94(1). A baling press for slivers which are supplied to it coiled in a can 15 having a false bottom 18 to which is fixed an axial spindle 16, comprises a vertically movably gripper for engaging the spindle and drawing it through a presser plate so that the coil is compressed between the plate and the rising false bottom. The gripper is supported on a head 1 movable vertically on a pillar 11, and as the head descends, the spindle 16 is guided by a cone 3 into the jaws, Fig. 3 (not shown) which are closed by a lever 9. The head then rises, raising the bottom 18 and coil, and the presser plate 23 swings inwards to engage the spindle in its slot 23b. At the top of the head's travel a cord a is tied round the bale and presser plate, using slots in the latter and in the bottom 18, and the jaws open permitting the members 16, 18 to fall. The presser plate, carrying the bale beneath it, now swings sideways and an ejector device 24 moving relative to it engages the cord to push the bale clear of the plate 23 to fall on an exit conveyer &c.
