Abstract
864,405. Photo-electric control systems. THOMAS HEDLEY & CO. Ltd. May 19, 1959 [May 16, 1958], No. 15726/58. Class 40(3) [Also in Groups XVII and XXIV] A machine for dropping cans from a marshalling tray 24, Fig. 3, into a carton situated below the tray has a can entrance 25 along which the cans pass to be aligned in single file between a vertically displaceable gate 20 (shown raised in Fig. 1) and a horizontally moveable pusher plate 17. As the leading can touches a micro-switch M4 the gate 20 rises and the pusher 17 reciprocates to push the aligned cans on to a horizontally slidable trap plate 23 in the tray 24. The gate 20 then descends and the process is repeated until the initial row of cans in the tray 24 has been pushed to a position where it cuts the beam of a photo-electric unit PE. The plate 23 is then automatically retracted below the pusher plate 17 to cause the assembled cans to drop into a carton resting on a platform 16. If a further charge of cans is required a push button must be operated to return the plate 23 and the process is repeated.
