Abstract

593,609. Discharging coke ovens. SIMONCARVES, Ltd., and PLANT, C. R. June 8, 1945, No. 14595. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] In a coke-discharging machine having a ram machine and a coke guide machine, safety means for preventing an oven being discharged before the coke guide and pusher machines are in alignment and the correct coke side door has been removed, comprises a lamp mounted on the coke guide machine projecting infra red rays across the top of the coke oven on to a light sensitive cell mounted on the ram machine when both are correctly aligned, the cell output being used to enable the ram motor to be started. The switch j, closed only when the flapper plate or retractable racking trough (not shown) is in position before an opened coke chamber, lights the lamp a mounted on the guide machine b. The output of the cell d mounted on the ram machine b', amplified by a valve e, energizes a relay k, provision being made to prevent this occurring accidentally. The relay contact closes the contact of a coil l, actuating a three phase contacter m, so that the ram motor may be started and closes a contact o to maintain the circuit of the coil l. A signal lamp f is illuminated when the machines are aligned and contacts on the relay k switch in a lamp g when the apparatus is ready for operation. Contacts n on the ram machine travel controller break the circuit of the coil l when said controller is moved from the "off" position and contacts r on the ram controller complete the circuit to the coil l when the controller is.in the "off" position or is moved into position for movement of the ram into the oven. A limit switch p breaks the circuit on completion of the ramming process and if any component of the safety device fails, the whole may be switched out of use. A milliameter h may be wired in circuit to record reception of the infra-red rays should the signal lamp f fail.
