883,306. Coiling textile slivers. DEUTSHER SPINNEREIMASCHINENBAU INGOLSTADT NIEDERLASSUNG DER SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A. G. March 6, 1959 [April 26, 1958], No. 7810/59. Class 120(3) A sliver coiler comprises automatic means for changing cans and automatic means for breaking the sliver by increasing the distance between a delivery device and a guide funnel above it, e.g. by movement of the funnel parallel to its normal operative position, when the cans are changed. As shown, a coiler head 9 in swinging from a full can 12 causes a push rod 8 to be raised by a cam 10 and thereby lift a cover plate 2 including a guide funnel 1 and sever the sliver the resulting fringe 7 of which is subsequently taken up by the feed rolls when the head is positioned over an empty can. The head may be stationary and/or the funnel may be lifted by hydraulic, pneumatic or electromagnetic apparatus (not shown). The rod may be replaced by a cam operated in synchronism with the swivelling motion of the head.
