Abstract
883,015. Arc-melting furnaces. HERAEUS G.m.b.H., W. C. June 11, 1958 [June 11, 1957], No. 18668/58. Class 39(3) An electric arc vacuum furnace has a magnetic coil for the stabilization of the arc located within a water jacket surrounding the melting crucible. As shown, in a furnace comprising an upper part 1, an electrode holding rod 3 carrying a consumable electrode 4 and a melting crucible 6 having a water jacket 10, a magnetic coil 12 is wound directly on the crucible wall within the water jacket. The coil turns may be insulated by artificial resin lacquers and operated at low voltage to avoid electrolysis of the cooling water. The coil may be subdivided into sections so that only that coil section may be energized which surrounds the arc at any time. Specification 883,016 is referred to.
