Abstract

882,681. Chucks. COOPER BROS. (STOCKPORT) Ltd. Aug. 19, 1959 [Aug. 21, 1958], No. 26848/58. Class 83 (3). A socket for use with a quick-change drillchuck 11 comprises a sleeve 12 axially secured to, and rotatable with, the chuck, by balls 14 engaging short annular or chordal grooves 13 in the sleeve. Coaxial with the sleeve 12 is a split-collet 19, actuated by a nut 23, screwed to the sleeve. In a modification, the grooves are replaced by a continuous groove around the periphery of the sleeve, and the sleeve is rotated by a pin in the chuck which engages a slot in the inner end of the sleeve 12. In a further modification, the collet is double-ended, and the bore of the sleeve is tapered to suit one of the tapers on the collet. To facilitate removal of the socket during rotation of the chuck, the nut has its sharp comers removed, and a ring may be rotatably secured thereon.
