Abstract
882,309. Stockings; stitched seams. CHADBOURN GOTHAM Inc. Feb. 18, 1958 [June 25, 1957], No. 5231/58. Drawings to Specification. Classes 112 and 141 [Also in Group VIII] During the production of a full fashioned stocking blank an additional yarn is knitted with the main yarn in the selvedge wales and is also knitted alone in a few wales beyond the edge of the fabric containing the main yarn. The stocking is then seamed in the normal manner using a yarn similar to that of the main yarn and subsequently treated to remove the additional yarn. The stocking thus formed is provided with a loose and less prominent seam having fewer selvedge wales than normal enclosed by the seaming yarn. The main yarn may be of nylon and the additional yarn of silk, the subsequent treatment being boiling the stocking in a solution of caustic soda to dissolve the silk yarn. The loose seam may extend throughout the whole length of the stocking or may be confined to any part of it.
