Abstract

1,235,361. Tights. PRETTY POLLY Ltd. 20 Dec., 1968 [16 Jan., 1968; 26 Feb., 1968; 19 March, 1968; 4 June, 1968], Nos. 24-14/68, 9278/68, 13121/68 and 26415/68. Heading A3V. [Also in Division D1] Tights, panti-hose, body stockings or similar garments are produced in a single operation on a similar knitting machine by mainly continuous rotary knitting by knitting first one leg portion 10 followed by an intermediate portion 11 which constitutes the body portion and finally completing the garment by knitting the other leg portion 12. A longitudinal opening is made in the intermediate portion and a band 17 attached such that the opening and band constitute the waist portion when the garment is worn. The end portions of the legs may be cut and seamed to form the toes or closed toe formations may be formed on the machine during the knitting operations. The leg portions can be shaped by normal stiffening and the leg and body portions can be knitted of stretch or elastomeric yarns to render the garment stretchable. The intermediate portion can be shaped to a certain extent by reciprocatory knitting as at 18 and 19 and the waist opening may be cut during the knitting operations by providing a needle or a sinker with a cutting edge and rendering the instrument operative for that purpose at the appropriate time. Alternatively the opening can be cut after the garment has been removed from the machine. The garment can be finished and dyed and may or may not be boarded. A relieving treatment may ensure that the finished garment is capable of covering a number of sizes.
