Abstract

880,903. Turbines. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. March 10, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 12199/57. Class 110 (3). A ring of pivoted and simultaneously adjustable guide vanes 32, project across a passageway defined by walls 33a, 33b, their free ends engaging a flat ring 46, held in sealing engagement with the blades by means of a spring washer 51, which forms a seal between the wall 33b and the flat ring. The spring washer is frusto-conical in form, one end being received under a lip 50 of the flat ring and the other end as a push-fit in a recess 47 in the wall 33b. The guide vanes have circular root parts 34 mounted in a ring of equally-spaced bores 22 in an annular member 21. Integral with each of the root parts is a stem 36 mounted in bearings and connected to a ring 43 by means of a forked lever 41 dowelled to the stem. The incidence of the guide vanes is adjusted by the ring 43 which may be actuated by a speed governor. Holes 52 in the member 21 communicate the inlet pressure to the chamber 27, and an annular labyrinth packing 29 prevents the leakage of air radially inwards between the rotor and casing. The spring washer may be replaced by more than one ring member retained in grooves in the flat ring 46 and the recess 47, and the inlet pressure communicated to the rear face of the flat ring through passages in the main casing.
