Abstract

879,865. Two-part couplings. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Jan. 20, 1960 [Jan. 30, 1959], No. 3414/59. Class 38 (1). The terminal fitting of a flexible conduit 1 carrying conductors 2 is connected to a multipin or socket head 5 by a sleeve 18 or sleeve nut which is retractable over the conduit to expose the connections between the conductors and the pins or sockets. The conduit is gripped between a nipple 7 and a sleeve 8 screwed thereon, the extremity of the conduit being clamped between conical faces 10, 9 on the nipple and sleeve and being pressed against a sealing washer 11 let into the face 10. A screen 2. if provided in the conduit, is gripped between screening sleeves 12, 13, the latter one having a flange 14 which is engaged by a nut 15 screwing on to the sleeve 8 and clamped against the nipple 7. The sleeve 12 has a series of tongues 17 to which individual screens on the conductors 2 may be connected. The forward end of sleeve 18 is castellated for engagement with a ring nut 23 on the head 5, or it may be screwthreaded, whilst the rear end of the sleeve has an inwardly directed flange 19 which is pressed against the nut 15 by a lock nut 20 screwing on to the sleeve 8. A sealing washer 21 is interposed between the flange 19 and the nut 15. To prevent relative rotation of the nut 15 and the sleeve 18 after assembly, a lock washer may be interposed between them or the flange 19 may carry a pin which enters one of a number of peripheral recesses in the nut 15 (Fig. 3, not shown).
