Abstract
878,912. Jigs. AUTOMATIC COAL CLEANING CO. Ltd. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 35964/58. Class 82(2) A jig having a circular or annular bed is actuated by an inverted cup shaped air chamber at the centre of the bed with its edges below the water level, material being fed to the centre and the separated fractions discharged at the periphery. As shown, feed is supplied from hopper 10 and under control gate 12 to annular perforated plate 13. Pulsating air is suuplied by duct 8 and water by duct 9 to chamber 7, the wall of which extends below the level of the water in inner cone 6. Light material separated by the jig is carried over sill 15 to peripheral launder 16 while the heavy material passes under gate 11 and over gate 14 into outer cone 2, the rate of removal of the heavy fraction being controllable by varying the pulsation of the bed between gates 11 and 14 by means of valves which connect chamber 18 to atmosphere, the closure of these valves decreasing the pulsation and the rate of removal of the heavy fraction. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the whole of the heavy fraction passes through a bedding layer of feldspar and through the screen into the base of the wash box from which it is removed.
