Abstract
1,002,507. Jigs. STAMICARBON N.V. Nov. 27, 1961 [Nov. 25, 1960], No. 42385/61. Headings B2H. A jig washer 1 has an extraction chamber 5 for heavy products moving off the end of a perforated material bed support, e.g. a screen 2, and the chamber 5 has a bottom wall 10, which supports the material in the chamber, and a discharge opening 11, .for the heavy products, with a discharge sill 13 to afford support to material spilling through the discharge opening, the sill being adjustably inclined to alter the rate of discharge of the heavy products. Raw coal enters the jig at 4 on to the screen 2 where it is subjected to liquid pulsations from air chambers 3 under the screen. The raw coal separates into a bottom layer of shale and a top layer of coal and middlings. The shale enters the chamber 5 and spills from the discharge opening 11 to form a natural slope 14 on the sill 13 without passing over the sill. The sill 13 is preferably perforated and on each upward pulse causes the slope 14 to be slightly lifted, so that some shale spills over the sill and more shale enters the chamber 5 to take its place. The sill 13 is hinged to the bottom wall 10 and its inclination may be automatically controlled by a float 16 and servo-mechanism 17. The coal and middlings pass over a wall 7 and are separated on a further screen 2<SP>1</SP>, the coal leaving via a trough 18 and the middlings being extracted in a chamber 5<SP>1</SP> similar to that described. The shale and middlings settle in the jig and are removed by a bucket elevator 15.
