Abstract

802,259. Washing granular materials. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLT-DEUTZ A. G. Jan. 18, 1957 [Jan. 20, 1956], No. 1940/57. Class 82(2) A sink-float separator comprises a conical lifting drum rota'table about an inclined axis so that the portion carrying the drive means is above the level of the separating liquid. The lifting drum 2 is made up of two conical parts 14, 15 joined by an annular plate 16 the drive, by toothed rim 6 and a meshing gear, being above the level of the liquid. Lifting blades 19 are provided to evacuate the sinks via a shoot 20. A plate 21 is secured to the bottom end of the drum and may be of a conical form with its apex lying on the axis of the drum so that its top portion is vertical. A further plate 22 guides the floats to their discharge trough 5. An upward or a downward current is established in the pipe 3 to assist the separation. The positioning of the rollers 41, 43, to avoid end thrust, is fully disclosed. The complete circuit is shown in Fig. 8 according to which the floats separate out on a screen 46 and the medium is circulated by an air lift 49. Draw-off pipe 55 and an auxiliary supply pine 56 may be used to vary the flow conditions in the system.
