Abstract
726,616. Centrifugal separators. STAMICARBON N.V., [formerly MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR KOLENBEWERKING STAMICARBON N.V.]. June 10, 1953 [June 13, 1952], No. 16031/53. Class 23. A hydrocyclone, Fig. 1, adapted to effect density separation of solids in the presence of a liquid carrier is provided with a core body 12 which prevents or reduces the apex discharge of particles belonging to the light fraction. The member 12 is mounted on a rod 13 which is screw-threaded into the outlet conduit 9 and permits the hydrocyclone to communicate with the atmosphere. In a modification, Fig. 2, the vortex finder 22 communicates with a closed overflow chamber 25 which accommodates an adjustably-mounted, water-tight conical roller bearing housing 26 for the core body 23. The hydrocyclone communicates with the 'atmosphere through the core body 23 and supporting rods 24, 27. A discharge conduit 31 maintains a partial vacuum in the vortex finder 22. The hydrocyclone may be incorporated in a coal washing plant, Fig. 3 (not shown), which includes draining and rinsing screens for the separated fractions; the liquid from said screens being recirculated as carrier liquid after suitable treatment. Dimensions are given in the Specification.
