Abstract

893,485. Centrifugal separators. STAMICARBON N.V. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec. 20, 1957], No. 41120/58. Class 23. Solids are separated into fractions in a hydrocyclone 12 which is fed at a constant pressure with suspension containing the solids from a tank 4. The tank has compartments 3, 6 supplied with suspension from a container 1. The solids are supplied to the compartment 3 at A. The compartment 6 is permitted to overflow at 13 and has an opening 7 connecting the compartments. The size of the opening is chosen so that solids are prevented from passing from the compartment 3 to the compartment 6. The fractions B, C are drained on sieves 14, 15 and washed in seives 16, 17. The overflow and the suspension drained through the sieves 14, 15 are passed to a tank 18. The diluted suspension from the sieves 16, 17 passes to a separator 19 which discharges suspension to the tank 18, water to the sieves 16, 17 and fine particles D to waste. Suspension from the tank 18 is returned to the feed. The opening 7 may be adjustable.
