Abstract

1,007,963. Cyclone separators. T. HORUICHI. Sept. 30, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963 ; Feb. 18, 1964], No. 39841/64. Heading B2P. A mixture of materials is separated into components of different densities by feeding the materials in suspension in a fluid inert to the materials tangentially and under pressure into the partially closed lower and wider end 22 of an inverted cyclone separator 1 so as to discharge from the upper end 11 and the lower end 22 the heavier and lighter components 19, 18 respectively together with a certain amount of the fluid. The latter may then be drained or washed from the separated components and re-used. The material and the fluid, which may be loaded with very finely ground material, are fed from hoppers 14, 15 through a pipe 2 terminating in a nozzle 3. The upper part 11 of the separator has an aperture 111 for the discharge of the heavier components 19 into a surrounding cylindrical vessel 12 and is closed at its upper end by a cap 10 through which extends the upper part of an inverted funnel 9 which may be vertically adjustable to ensure discharge of the largest pieces of the heavier components.
