Abstract

914,207. Washing granular materials. BERGER, V. Nov. 23, 1959 [Nov. 25, 1958], No. 39669/59. Class 82 (2). An upward current classified for concentrating coal or ores comprises two hollow conic frusta 1 and 2 forming an axially vertical flow channel in the form of a diabolo and two closed conic or frusto-conic members 5 and 6 mounted coaxially within 1 and 2 and vertically movable in the diabolo. As shown in the Figure cones 5 and 6 are movable by hand wheels 7 and 8 to regulate the size of passageways E and F, and a launder 9 with a discharge channel 10 surrounds the diabolo, the external wall of the launder being high enough to allow a higher water level in tne tank 3 than in the diabolo. Recycled water and the medium to be concentrated is fed at the top and fresh water is fed via 4 at the bottom of tank 3. An upward flow is formed in the diabolo and the rate of flow is controlled by the relative positions of cones 5 and 6. The lights and fines are discharged at launder 9 and the rate of overflow is regulated by the difference in water-level between tank 3 and the diabolo measured by an indicator 11. The sinks are discharged at 4 and the intermediate size particles concentrate at B to form a dense medium.
