Abstract

724,854. Washing granular material. COMPAGNIE DE FIVES-LILLE POUR CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES ET ENTREPRISES. May 1, 1953 [March 25, 1953], No. 12196/53. Addition to 715,661. Class 82 (2). The method and apparatus of the parent Specification are modified by the elimination of the mechanical means for disintegrating the mixed substances during their entry into the feed compartment and for impelling them downwardly into the vessel, and/or by the elimination of mechanical means for effecting or assisting the discharge of the separated lighter substances floating on the surface of the liquid medium in the vessel. Jets of the liquid medium are used for the disintegration and impelling of the mixed feed, and overflow of the medium is utilized to discharge the lighter substances. The maintenance of the bulk of the liquid medium between two predetermined levels, as in the parent Specification, may be effected by the jets jointly with the admission of at least one supply of liquid medium at a point in the interior of the bulk of said medium. As shown, an inclined plate 48 is arranged over which the feed takes place and jets 50 disintegrate the feed and impell it downwards. A tapered overflow 52 is arranged for the discharge of the light fraction, and the maintenance of the bulk of the medium is effected by the jets 50 and inlet jets 56 in the medium. The depth of the partition 45 may be adjustable.
