Abstract
1, 042, 935. Gravity separation apparatus. J. CORNELISSEN. May 16, 1963 [May 18, 1962], No. 19594/63. Heading B1D. A tank for the separation from a liquid of impurities having a specific gravity differing from that of the liquid, comprises a partition 7 arranged in an upper portion thereof and dividing the tank into an inlet compartment 8 for the liquid to be cleaned and a discharge compartment 9 for the purified liquid, means for discharging impurities separated from the liquid, and means for pivotally mounting a bundle of parallel plates 10 in one of the two compartments in such a manner as to permit, when the plate bundle is in position in the tank, pivotal movement of the plate bundle between a substantially vertical cleaning position and an inclined working position and about an axis disposed substantially parallel to the plates. Discharging compartment 9 is located in an upper or lower part of the tank depending on whether the impurities are lighter or heavier than the liquid. The means for pivotally moving the plate bundle may also actuate closure means for the discharge compartment. The tank may be used in conjunction with conventional tanks in series for treating sewage.
