Abstract

1,247,963. Pneumatic separating. BUHLER A.G. GEB. 2 April, 1969 [17 April, 1968; 11 Nov., 1968], No. 17390/69. Heading B2H. Apparatus for performing a gravity concentration process comprises an inclined gaspervious support 1 for material presorted into a lower stratum rich in heavy fractions and an upper stratum poor in heavy fractions and fluidised by air passed through the support from below, the support being vibrated so that the lower stratum is dispensed at outlet 6, and the upper stratum at outlet 8. The presorting process is carried out along a separate portion 26 of the support. The upper stratum overflows from the portion 26 through an aperture 30 in the side wall 29, whilst the lower stratum appears at the opening 40. The. support 1 consists of a pervious sheet 3 carried by a perforated sheet 4 and upright partitions 5, to which the sheets 3, 4 are adhesively secured. The vibrator 18 is an eccentrically-loaded motor-driven shaft. The cover plate 21 is provided with an inspection window 42. Compressed air may be supplied from below, or air removed by suction from above. A blowing nozzle 32 may be provided to remove any light fraction carried up in the lower stratum. In alternative embodiments, the presorting portion is symmetrically placed, and a wedge portion (34) (Fig. 6, not shown) may be included to split and divert the lower stratum to two separate outlets (6, 60).
