Abstract

926,172. Froth flotation. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Sept. 11, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 21069/58. Class 117. A multi-stage froth flotation apparatus has three or more superimposed cells and froth is passed into each cell from the cell immediately beneath. As shown, three cells 11, 12 and 13 are separated by separators 14 and 15 provided with perforations which may be frusto-conical (tapering towards the top) or cylindrical. These separators are sealed at their edges with plastic foam seals 20 and provision may be made to vibrate them. A perforated plate 19 is vibrated by rod 18 to break up large bubbles issuing from annular air distributer 22 supplied via pipe 21. Fresh feed enters at 23 and tailings leave at 25. Foam in cell 13 together with entrapped mineral passes through separator 15 into cell 12 where further separation takes place, the material separated from the foam returning via pipe 28 to cell 13 while foam with entrained material passes up into cell 11 for further separation. Purified froth leaves the apparatus over discharge outlet 24 and separated material is returned via pipe 27 to cell 12. Fresh water or other liquid and frothing agent is added through pipe 26. The separators 14, 15 and the plate 19 may be interconnected for common vibration. A modification (Fig. 2, not shown) shows the cells made of rectangular section elongated to provide a considerable separation between feed pipe 23 and tailing pipe 25.
