Abstract

1,225,887. Magnetic separation, wet separation. STAMICARBON N.V. 19 Nov., 1969, No. 56714/69. Headings B2H and B2J. To clean and thicken a suspension of fine magnetisable particles in a liquid, the material is fed from a tank 29 and is magnetically separated into a first fraction which includes the bulk of the magnetisable particles and a second fraction which includes the bulk of the contaminating particles by means of a magnetic separator 32 the first portion being discharged into a tank 34 where it is diluted by the addition of water through a conduit 43 and then supplied to a cyclone densifier 51 where it is thickened and fed into a tank 53, the overflow from the cyclone being fed through a conduit 54 into a magnetic separator 55 where the magnetisable particles are fed through a conduit 56 and combined with the thickened fraction flowing through conduit 52 to tank 53 where it is pumped into a tank 7. The suspension of magnetisable material is used to separate minerals according to specific gravity. Ore is supplied to a mixing tank 6 where it is mixed with the suspension from tank 7 and fed to a hydrocyclone washer 12 the clean ore being discharged through a conduit 13 and supplied to a draining screen 14 and then to a washing screen 16, the diluted suspension being collected in a reservoir 18 and then fed to tank 29. The tailings are discharged from the cyclone washer 12 to a draining screen 21 and washing screen 23, the diluted suspension being collected in a reservoir 25 where it is fed into tank 29 for reconditioning.
