Abstract

765,198. Wet separation of granular material. RIDLEY, F. F. April 7, 1955 [Jan. 11, 1954], No. 31230/53. Class 82(2) A trough washer for materials, e.g. coal, of differing specific gravities comprises means for dewatering and recirculating the intermediate product. A feed section 1a is followed by a separating action 1b of less inclination, material being fed at x and water at 2. The heavy product is evacuated at 5 and dewatered at 9, the light fraction is delivered and dewatered at 10 and the intermediate product from the box 6 is dewatered on the screen 11 and returned to the head of the trough by a conveyer belt 12. If desired water can be added at 7, 8 to combat the downward flow of water caused by evacuation or to supply an upward flow of water to aid separation. The fine materials in the underflow of the screens may be extracted by settling or by froth flotation. A superimposed series of trough washers working on the same principle is described and illustrated in the Specification.
