Abstract
An apparatus for separating solids comprises an inclined trough 9 mounted on a frame 7. A carrier liquid is distributed on to the upper end of the trough at 17 and flows down the trough at 14. Light bulky materials are carried by the liquid stream to the downstream end 19 of the trough, while heavy fine materials form a sediment. A vibrator 8 is attached to the frame 7 at an Upwardly acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the trough. The vibrations therefrom urge the heavy sediment upwards to the upstream end 20 of the trough. The apparatus may have several troughs 9 disposed side by side and each supplied with liquid from a constant level tank 15 through valves 18. Unsorted material is fed to each trough by flexible tubes 13 from a rotatory distributor 12. Troughs may also be arranged in series one beneath another with the separated material from one trough forming the feed for the trough beneath. One component of a separated mixture may be recirculated through a series of troughs to improve the separation and yield of the other component.
