Abstract
712,148. Separating solid materials; ball mills. SAMESCH, K. R., SAGL, K., and KLANNER, R. April 17, 1952 [April 20, 1951], No. 9669/52. Classes 59 and 117 In the separation of mixtures according to size, shape, or material, by means of a vibrating plate which is inclined to the horizontal, the direction of vibration of the separator plate is inclined at an angle to the horizontal which exceeds the slope of the separator plate by an angle between 20 degrees and 50 degrees. As shown in Fig. 4 the materials are fed on to a trough 1 which is supported on leaf springs 8 and is vibrated by means of two eccentric masses 12 rotating in opposite directions, the direction of vibration being shown by the arrows 2. The fine material 4 travels up the trough and the coarse material 5 rolls down in the opposite direction. The shape of the trough may be varied by means of a pivot bearing 13 and an adjustable support 14. A number of vibrating troughs may be arranged one above the other, Fig. 2 (not shown). Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which loose bodies 16 in a vibrating container 15 grind the coarse material, the resultant fine material travelling upwardly as a result of the separating action of the vibrating plate 1. The vibrator may be an electromagnet 17 and the slope of the plate may be adjusted by means of a screw 18. A device for automatically weighing the fines may be provided, which stops the apparatus when a predetermined weight has been reached. The base 19 is mounted on springs 20 or other resilient means. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 6 and 7, a number of laterally sloping separator plates 1<SP>1</SP> are provided. Two vibrating conveyer troughs 21, 22, are connected by leaf springs 23, the conveyer 21 being suspended by springs 26, and they are vibrated through an eccentric drive 24 so that the material in the troughs is conveyed. The mixture 3 is fed into the upper trough and moves through outlets 27 to the rear ends of the separator plates 1<SP>1</SP> where, due to the combined .actions of the slope of the plate and the vibration, the fine material 4 moves along the top of the plates 1<SP>1</SP> and the coarse material 5 moves along the lower portion of the plates in the same direction. The two fractions are collected in the corresponding compartments of the lower trough 22 in which they are conveyed to separate outlet pipes 28. The separating apparatus may be mounted within a vibrating conveyer tube 29, Fig. 9. The trough 30 feeds the mixture 3 through an adjustable opening 31 to the separator plate 1<SP>1</SP>, the fine material 4 being collected in a trough 32, and the coarse material 5 being collected and conveyed in the lower part of the conveyer tube. The slope of the separator plate may be adjusted by turning the entire conveyer tube or in an alternative arrangement, Fig. 10 (not shown). the separator plate is pivotally supported in the tube and is provided with a clamping device.
