Abstract
751,651. Sink-and-float separation. TROMP, K. F. April 7, 1954, No. 10202/54 Class 82(2). Coal &c. is separated into three fractions of differing specific gravity in a suspension the specific gravity of which changes abruptly at half-depth thus setting up a middlings layer having a specific gravity intermediate that of the media on either side of the density change. Coal is introduced at 42 together with low density suspension at 13. The floats are removed up a perforated plate 12 and the sinks fall onto a false bottom 9 and are carried by the conveyer 8 first to sink on the bottom and then up the slope 6 to a screen 35. The high density suspension enters at 15 and sets up currents carrying the middlings onto a perforated plate 10 up which they are conveyed to be discharged onto the screen 22. The heavy suspension, together with small middlings is evacuated at 16, 17 and densified at 27 for recycling. Specifications 466,964, 530,742 and 593,455 are referred to.
