Abstract
858,756. Washing coal and ore slimes. HARVENGT, E. July 24, 1957 [July 27, 1956], No. 23467/56. Class 82(2) A coal or ore slime treating process comprises dividing the slime into two portions, one portion containing the greater density, larger size particles and a major proportion of the greater density smaller size particles, the other containing the less dense particles and the remainder of the greater density, smaller size, particles, mechanically separating the larger size, less dense particles from the other portion and subjecting the smaller size, greater density particles and the smaller size, less dense particles to a recovery treatment. As shown, the slime may be fed to jigs 2 the underflow going to waste and the overflow to a vibrating screen 11, the oversize being values and the undersize passing to a thickening cone 12 and then to a trough 13 having evacuating cones 14 which discharge shales and middlings, the clean coal being discharged at the end of the trough. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the sieve 11 is followed by a froth flotation cell or cells and in a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the thickener is followed by jigs.
