Abstract
651,587. Wet separation. COLLIERY ENGINEERING, Ltd., and LAWRIE, A. E. July 28, 1948. No. 20161. [Class 82(ii)] A wet separation process in which materials of different density are separated in a jig or trough washer, employs a solid/liquid suspension of less specific gravity than the lighter material to be separated, the separated light constituent being screened and the underflow subjected to froth flotation to recover the fine light particles, and to separate out the suspension solid which is returned to the system through a densimetric control stage. In the apparatus shown, the jig or trough washer 1 receives raw coal from a conveyer 2 and the washed coal is screened at 4 and washed by jets 9, the underflow from the screens being froth floated at 12, the finer coal is extracted at 14 and the medium is returned through screen 15 to the head tank 7. The densimetric control step 26 regulates the density of the medium in tank 7. Cyclones 23 and thickener 18 bleed tailings from the system.
