Abstract
627,423. Washing granular material. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. March 14, 1947, No. 7223. Convention date, March 14, 1946. [Class 82(ii)] In a method for the separation of solid particles of different specific gravity, fine particles of the same specific gravity as the particles of higher specific gravity in the mixture to be separated are added to the pulp which is then fed into the wide end of a conical space wherein it is given a rotary movement so that the heavier particles form an outer stratum moving towards the apex, the concentration of which stratum being such that it is impenetrable by the lighter particles and the ratio of fine heavy particles to large particles being maintained constant in the feed. As shown, a tank 7 contains feed, comprising crushed ore, water and fine heavy particles for a cyclone having a conical portion 9 and a cylindrical portion 10, the heavy fraction being discharged from the apex 18 on to a screen 30 and the light fraction through an overflow pipe 16 on to a screen 20. The undersize from the screen 30 is returned in any desired quantity to the feed tank and the undersize from the screen 20 may be discharged to waste or, in order to conserve water, returned to the feed tank. The heavy particles of the feed together with the added small heavy particles from the screen 30 are stated to produce a stratum in the cyclone which is impenetrable by any of the lighter particles. The ratio of fine heavy particles to liquid should be maintained as constant as possible.
