Abstract

The system recovers heavy magnetic particles from a suspension containing other lighter particles. The suspension is subjected to one or more density separation operations, so as to form a first fraction, consisting basically of heavy particles only, and a second one containing the bulk of the lighter ones and a few heavy ones. Two such operations can be carried out, the overflow from the first one being dewatered before subjecting it to the second one, and each operation can be effected in a cyclone with a cone angle between 60 and 180 deg. The magnetic particles can be magnetite.
