Abstract

The system separates rubbish into fractions including a combustible one and a compostable one. The rubbish is first ground down and then sifted between a chute for the compostable fraction and an overflow for the combustible one. After grinding but before sifting the refuse is separated into a heavy fraction, mainly of material either inert or not easily combustible, and a light one which is then sifted into compostable and combustible material. The particle size after grinding can be less than 200 and preferably less than 150mm.
