Abstract

837,373. Gravity-separation apparatus. SUMIYA, S. Sept. 2, 1958, No. 28170/58. Class 46. [Also in Group II] Liquid containing solids (e.g. ores), liquids (e.g. carbon bisulphide) or gases, (e.g. hydrogen sulphide) is introduced at 44 to a first stage vessel 41a to which air and gases are supplied at 46a. The resulting froth flows into V-shaped troughs 50, whence solids and liquids pass out at 53 to a common conduit 54, while gases escape at 45a along with air. The main body of liquid rises between partitions 42a, 42b into a second stage vessel 41b where the same process occurs, the air and gases rising therefrom being passed along a pipe 47a, in which is located a blower 48a, to the pipes 46a in the first stage vessel. In a -third stage vessel, 41c, the air pipes are fed directly by a blower 49 and the liquid passes out at 55. The mixture from conduit 54 is introduced at 56 to a separate single-stage vessel 41d, supplied with air directly from the blower 49, and from which solids and liquids leave at 61, air and gases at 62 and liquid at 63. Each of the vessels has a bottom outlet (not shown) for discharge of precipitates. False bottoms 51 in the troughs, and baffle systems 52 (with openings rectangular in horizontal crosssection) may be dispensed with. Fig. 7 (not shown) is a three-stage apparatus differing from the stages 41a to 41c of Fig. 9 only in having all the air fed directly from the blower 49 and all the outlets 45a to 45c discharging into the atmosphere. Fig. 1 (not shown) is a singlestage apparatus.
