1,147,127. Evaporators, submerged combustion type. GOSUDARSTVENNY NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT OSNOVNOI KHIMII. 12 Jan., 1968, No. 1893/68. Heading B1B. Liquid to be evaporated flows through pipe 20 into a cylindrical vessel 1 to which is connected at least one external, liquid-circulation pipe 4 containing a submerged burner 5 arranged so that the liquid is carried up the pipe 4 by the gaseous combustion products. The lower end of the burner is provided with a conical device 6 for splitting the flow of hot gases and of liquid. The mixture of liquid, gases and vapour enters vessel 1 by a tangential connection. The lower end of pipe 4 is connected radially to vessel. Separation of liquid and vapour, and preheating of the feed liquid, takes place in contacting device 11 which comprises two conical baffles, the feed liquid being fed through pipe 16 onto the upper baffle 12. The preheated liquid overflows from device 11 into tank 19 whence part of it flows through pipe 20 into vessel 1, the remainder being returned to the feed-tank 22 through pipe 21. The vapours rise through louvres 17 to outlet-pipe 24. Crystals may be removed from vessel 1 through an outlet in the conical bottom 22. Burner 5 is supplied with gas, and with compressed air from high-pressure fans.
