Abstract
1316992 Bubbling gases through liquids MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET 18 June 1970 [30 June 1969] 29587/70 Heading B1R Gas/liquid contact apparatus comprises vessel 1 containing parallel vertical columns 4, liquid inlet 14 and outlet 17, gas inlet pipes 5 extending downwardly into columns 4 and perforated at 18 for passage of gas bubbles into the liquid, baffles 25 to separate gas and liquid, and gas outlet 24 at the top of the vessel. Liquid is induced upwardly in columns 4 by the flow of gas bubbles and flows downwardly between the columns. The columns may occupy at least 10%, preferably 30-70%, of the cross-sectional area of the vessel. In Fig. 1 vessel 1 is surrounded by hot or cold jacket 2. Tubes 4 are suspended via concentric gas inlet pipes 5 from gas distributor chambers 6 and 7, which are separated by hexagonal-section wall 8 and surrounded by jacket 9. Hexagonal plate 11 divides the space above the liquid into gas collector chambers 12 and 13. Liquid fed in at 14 is conducted by tubes 15 to manifold 16. Gas fed in at 19 past baffle 20 in chamber 6 passes through tubes 5 and 4 and enters chamber 12. Blower 21 then impels the gas via pipes 22, 23 into chamber 7 from where it passes to further tubes 5 and 4, chamber 13, and finally outlet 24. In collector chambers 12, 13 the gas-liquid mixture is separated by baffles 25. The top of columns 4 may be above, at, or below the liquid level. In Fig. 4 a single column for treating two liquids of different density is shown.
