Abstract

935,188. Jigs. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDTDEUTZ A.G. Oct. 21, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1959], No. 36183/60. Class 117. A jig for the preparation of minerals such as coal comprises at least three jigging compartments 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 arranged in series, each compartment having a screen 12, 13, 14 and each being filled with water which is forced through the screens in a series of pulses, the screen 13 of the second compartment being located at a higher position than screens 12 and 14 and the water pulses in this compartment are controlled so that the fine waste leaving screen 12 of the first compartment passes through the screen 13 and is discharged at the bottom of this compartment. The feed material is supplied to the jig via shoot 23 and the coarsest heaviest waste particles which form the layer on screen 12 are removed via paddle wheel 26 into waste shoot 24, the discharge rate being controlled by a float 27. The lighter waste is carried with the coal and middlings on to screen 13 which is about 200 mm. higher than screen 12 and jigging is carried out with less water at a higher pulse frequency and a smaller pulse stroke, e.g. 40-50 c.b.m./h. of water at a frequency of 120-160 pulses/min as compared with screens 12 and 14 where jigging is effected with 70 c.b.m./h. of water at a frequency of 60-80 pulses/min. The fine waste is discharged via outlet 28 or flap valve 80. The depth of bed on screen 13 is controlled by a float 31 which operates a by-pass valve 34 in a compresser air circuit to operate the pulse rate of the water in the compartment. The middlings and coal pass from screen 13 to screen 14 where jigging is effected and middlings are removed by a paddle wheel 40 controlled by a float 41 and the cleaned coal is discharged at 42. The front part of the screen 13 may be inclined upwardly from the level of the discharge outlet 44 of the discharge coarse waste shoot 24 to enable any coarse waste which may be carried over from screen 12 to fall back into the discharge shoot.
